Had a road trip yesterday viewing the aftermath of the 400 plus mls of rain that fell last week-end. Banks washed away where Coral trees have been poisoned. Pipes and causeways clogged with branches and rocks. Obvious too which plants withstood the water, mainly lomandras longifolia but the loathed, in some quarters, the sturdy robust Camphor Laurel and privet has held in many steep road verges.
There is no narrative but that which we impose:
the destruction of Nature through Reason.
Came home by 3 pm. Jayne stayed for dinner and then we pickled chilli in a cider vinegar brine with pepper, cloves and mustard seeds. Dinner consisted of beautifully tender beans, yacon and daikon in a lime and mint dressing. Mushrooms and a chick pea patties with a handful of salad greens accompanied by local brown rice and chilli.
