Cycling out the other morning I came across this just killed joey. I removed the little one from the road and continued on to my herbicide-free road weed stint.
On the way back home a woman was standing at the side of the road with a card board box beside her. She was waiting for WIRES, the native animal rescue volunteer group. I asked to see the wallaby inside the box to find it was dead. We brought the body home, inspected the pouch for another, suckling, which luckily there wasn’t.
I placed the body in my wallaby cemetery in the centre of a new forest behind the gardens.
