Run off into the reef.

A massive plume of polluted floodwater has hit our Great Barrier Reef, sparking a fresh threat to our fragile natural wonder. The muddy plume, which likely included nitrogen and pesticide chemicals, spread 60 kms to the outer reefs and was so large it could be seen from space. The satellite image below from the recent Queensland floods shows how far polluted runoff can reach into Reef waters.
