Monarch.

I watched 2 Monarch butterfly caterpillars feed on the cotton plant, get plump then go into the cocoon position.

Then after a day the caterpillar had shrivelled to a black husk.

I wonder why? Not cold here yet but spasmodic rain.

The next stage they never reached.
